Tackling the Issues
The people of Lewis & Clark County are struggling right now. I know first hand and feel it every day. While the county commission might not be able to solve all of the issues we face, there is a lot that can be done to make things better.
Jakob Miles On The Issues
Affordable Housing - We need to work together with leaders at the city, county, and state level to stop the housing crisis in its tracks. If we can’t bring the cost of housing down across the entire continuum of housing, we will lose our future.
Public Lands - As county commissioner, Jakob will fight against any effort to sell off our public lands. Our public lands are a treasure that we all own. Wherever it makes sense, Jakob will work with communities to expand public lands.
Public Safety - Jakob believes in keeping the people of Lewis & Clark County safe. Safe roads, law enforcement, and a more accessible justice system are all part of keeping our communities safe. He knows this can be done without violating the rights of any person within the county. He will never approve of any law enforcement action that would violate those rights.
Public Health - As a current public health worker, Jakob has seen all of the effort that goes into keeping us healthy. Clean air and water, safe places to eat, suicide and overdose prevention, immunizations, emergency and pandemic response are just some of those efforts. He is committed to keeping this work going and keeping us all healthy.
AI Data Centers - The level of potential benefits from data centers do not out weight the very likely negative effects they would have on our communities. The massive amounts of energy and water needed would put to large a strain on our already struggling energy and water supplies. That is why, until there are major changes in how they run, Jakob will work to keep AI data centers out of Lewis & Clark County.
Passenger Rail - As someone who travels back and forth from Eastern Montana multiple times a year, Jakob wants to see passenger rail restored through the county. It would not only bring in more money for our communities, but would also make it easier for residents to travel, especially during a harsh Montana winter.
Helena Airport - As a former airline employee, Jakob is looking forward to working with the Helena Airport Authority to increase flight options in and out of the Helena airport. The people of Lewis & Clark County deserve more affordable options for travel. By plane or train, Jakob will work to bring in those affordable travel options.
